Rules

1. The Challenge

a. To design and construct a fiber-reinforced concrete bowling ball to achieve optimal performance under specified failure criteria.

b. To develop a fabrication process that produces a radial uniform density while maximizing volume.

2. Eligibility

The rules of eligibility have been translated to Persian and attached to this document. See attachment A.

Each competition has separate and different requirements and rules of eligibility, so participants in the student competitions should read each document carefully.

3. Materials and Curing

a. The bowling ball must use cementitious materials as binder. The cementitious materials shall be Portland cement meeting ASTM C 150, blended cement meeting ASTM C 595, or expansive cement meeting ASTM C 845. Supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash and natural pozzolan meeting ASTM C 618, silica fume meeting ASTM C 1240, and slag meeting ASTM C 989 may also be used.

b. Any type of non-metallic aggregate may be used.

c. Chemical admixtures meeting ASTM C 494 or ASTM C 1017 may be used. Glues and similar binders, such as epoxies and other polymers, are not allowed.

d. Curing shall be at atmospheric pressure. The curing temperatures shall not exceed the boiling point of water. Use of a standard moist curing room is permitted.

e. The fiber-reinforced concrete mixture design shall include fibers of maximum 60 mm length and made of steel, glass, synthetic or natural materials as described in ACI 544.1R. The fibers may be used at any dosage rate. No other type of reinforcing is allowed.

f. Filling of honeycombed surfaces after casting is allowed. Fill materials must be selected from the same materials used in the original concrete mixture.

4. Specimen

a. The bowling ball mass shall not exceed 5.5 kg. The bowling ball shall measure the maximum of 250 mm and a minimum of 225 mm diameter.
b. The bowling ball shall be cast or formed monolithically. A ball consisting of smaller precast units bonded together by any means will be disqualified.
c. The bowling ball may be solid (homogeneous) or core filled. If core filled, the maximum density of the filler material shall be no greater than 2400 kg/m3.
d. The hole in the middle axle of the Bowling Ball shall measure the Minimum of 25 mm in diameter.
e. Modification of entries shall not be permitted once they are submitted for the competition.
f. The Bowling Ball should stand perfectly vertical and it should not tilt or be unbalanced more than 5 degrees.

5. Qualification and Testing Procedures

The competition procedures consist of three steps, all handled by a group of judges appointed by the ACI Iran Chapter Competitions committee.

a. Qualification for further Testing

Each team must have two balls for competition and only one sealed envelope with their school and team name or similar acronym. The balls are marked with the team name or similar acronym with suffix #1 and #2 for identifying each of the two balls. A judge will arbitrarily choose ball #1 or ball #2 for submission to the competition. The team will submit the chosen ball and envelope to the judge. The team will keep the ball not chosen available for the judge until the competition is closed. The judges will minimally handle the balls. Once chosen, the ball will be handled primarily by one person from each team throughout the competition. The bowling ball submitted will be individually checked for compliance to the requirements of Sections 2 through 4 of these rules. Only after the qualification for further testing has been completed, will each qualifying bowling ball be submitted to the Roll Test and Load Test.

b. Roll Test

The bowling ball will be positioned at the top of a V-shaped ramp and propelled down the ramp by the force of gravity onto a flat surfaced lane. (See diagram below) As shown below in the illustration, the ramp shall be 1,220 mm long and raised 400 mm on one end in order to achieve a reasonable ball speed. The ball must “strike” between two edges spaced 600 mm apart at the end of the 3,000 mm long lane. Each ball shall be rolled in two orientations as arbitrarily marked “mostly perpendicular” on the ball by the judges. For each orientation, each ball will be given two tries to successfully pass through the strike zone.

c. Load Test

The bowling ball will next be placed in a testing apparatus. The load shall be applied with the initial speed of the crosshead displacement set at 10 mm/min. Load will be applied until the crosshead displacement of the testing apparatus has traveled 25 mm. The load will be recorded at this point. In addition, the load will be recorded at every 5 mm of crosshead displacement and the average of the five loads will be computed, which will be used for final score evaluation (see Section 6).

d. Mass Test

6. Report.

a. The Concrete Bowling Ball specimen with the identifying markings clearly displayed on it, should be submitted In Person by no later than 8:00 am December, 26, 2023. Each team shall provide, along with the bowling ball, a hard copy of a report as described below on standard letter sized paper. Failure to provide the following documentation will disqualify a team from participating in the competition..

b. Each report shall be in the Persian language and contain the following:
i. Include a cover page containing the following:

1. School name and Team name (i.e. University of Concrete, Team Holey)
2. Team members and faculty advisor names
3. Entry Identification Marking matching the specimen marking mentioned in 3.e.
ii. Provide a maximum of two pages of pictures (with proper safety equipment being used) and captions showing the methods of the following:
1. Batching and placing procedures (molding)
2. Compaction and Finishing procedures
3. Curing procedures
4. Preliminary testing of bowling ball, if applicable
iii. Provide a maximum of two pages of narrative, graphs or flow charts showing the team’s decision process in selecting the final mixture design and compaction methods for the bowling ball specimens
iv. Materials Selection
1. Provide a single picture showing all materials used in the submitted bowling ball’s mixture grouped together prior to mixing (i.e. measured materials in separate containers showing relative proportions used).
2. Include a copy of the gradation test results (ASTM C136) for the individual aggregates or combined aggregates as mentioned in 2.b.
3. Attach a submittal sheet for each chemical admixture used in the mixture – these are easily obtained from the manufacturer and will confirm compliance with rule 2.d.
v. Include a copy of the Official Mixture Design spreadsheet in SI units (NOTE: this copy DOES NOT replace required submission of official mixture design spreadsheet in Excel file format indicated in Section d, below). It is highly recommended to have an industry mentor from your local sponsoring group review your mix design for accuracy
c. The report will not impact the final performance score, however failing to submit the report via email before the deadline and handing in a hard copy of the report on the day of the competitions will result in the teams disqualification .

7. Test Evaluation.

The scoring equation

Final Performance Score = Average Load x (Diameter) x Roll Test Multiplier
1. Final Performance Score = Average Load x (Diameter) x Roll Test Multiplier
a. The diameter is taken as an average of three orthogonal measurements “mostly perpendicular” and chosen by the judges.
b. Two rolls before the Load Test and two rolls after the Load Test. To compute the roll test multiplier, deduct 10% in the final score for each failed roll out of the four rolls attempted during the roll test. Thus, a ball with one failed run would have a 0.90 multiplier for the final score. The lowest multiplier would then be 0.60. If the ball does not roll under its own weight during the second roll test, the rolls will be counted as failed rolls and will affect the multiplier as such.
c. The team that achieves a Final Score with the highest value will receive the prize for first place. The teams with the next highest values in descending order will receive the prize for second and third place. In the case of a tie, the winner is determined based on largest test load.
d. If a bowling ball fails to reach a deflection of 25 mm prior to reaching the test apparatus’ capacity, the load test will be stopped and the loads associated with any remaining crosshead displacements will be recorded as the capacity of the test machine.

8. Judging

The competition and presiding judge will be appointed by the ACI Iran Chapter Competitions committee.
a. The judges will determine whether or not the rules have been followed.
b. The decision of the judges will be final, and appeals will not be considered.
c. Before convention, the judges will evaluate the files.
d. Safe and professional behavior is expected in the competition.
e. During the competition, the judges will evaluate the teams for their behavior.
f. Disruptive and unsafe behavior will be penalized in the scoring of the team.

9. Submitting the Bowling Ball Entries and Supporting Materials

a. Registration is required. The Registration Form can be downloaded from the website at www.aciiranchapter.org and must be submitted no later than 15 December, 2023 at 5:00 pm.
b. The bowling balls accompanied by the Registration documents and a hard copy of the report must be submitted in person along with the specimen envelope no later than 8:00 p.m. on December, 26, 2023, or as otherwise directed.
c. The electronic Report and Official Mixture Design, as described above, shall be submitted through email: Convention@aciiranchapter.org, no later than 5:00 p.m. on 19 December 2023.

10. Compliance with ACI-Bowling Ball Competition Rules

ACI Iran Chapter reserves the right to perform detailed examination and check entries for compliance with the competition rules. Examination will also be done after the competition. If examination shows that a team did not follow the rules, the team, their advisor and teams from the same school will be disqualified. ACI Iran Chapter will further document recommendations to sanction the team, their advisor, and/or school/university participation in future competitions.

 Eligibility Rules

 هدف:

  توانایی طراحی و ساخت یک توپ بولینگ بتنی توخالی با ابعاد و وزن مشخص که با الیاف مسلح شده برای رسیدن به عملکرد ایده آل تحت معیار شکست مشخص

 قوانین مسابقه: تیم های شرکت کننده در مسابقه:

اعضاي تيم ها، دانش آموزان دبيرستانها، هنرجويان هنرستانهاي فني و حرفه اي، دانشجويان دانشگاه های سراسری، آزاد و موسسات آمورش عالی(مقطع کارشناسی مهندسی عمران، مکانیک، معدن، معماری، مهندسی شیمی و … در تمامی گرایش ها)، مراکز آموزش عالي، مراكز تحقيقاتي پژوهشي دولتي و غير دولتي می باشند. لازم به ذکر است تعداد تیم های شرکت کننده از هر دانشگاه، موسسه آموزش عالی، دبیرستان، هنرستان و …  نامحدود و در هر گرایش می توانند حداکثر دو تیم داشته باشند که باید اعضای تیم ها متفاوت باشند.

 مثال:

تیم A از دانشگاه A جهت مسابقه Epd و Cube (استاد راهنما:A و اعضای گروه: 1و 2 و 3 و 4 و 5 و 6 و 7 و 8)
تیم B از دانشگاه A جهت مسابقه Epd و Cube (استاد راهنما:A و اعضای گروه: 9 و 10 و 11 و 12 و 13 و 14 و 15 و 16)
تیم C از دانشگاه A جهت مسابقه Bowling و پل کاغذی (استاد راهنما:B و اعضای گروه: 17 و 18 و 19و 20 و 21 و 22 و 23 و 24)
توجه : تیم C از دانشگاه A اجازه شرکت در مسابقات Cube و Epd را نخواهد داشت.

1-2 شرایط مذکور (بند 1-1) برای تمامی مسابقات غیر از مسابقه کانو بتنی صادق می باشد.
1-3 چنانچه تعداد تیم های شرکت کننده در هر گرایش به حداقل 4 تیم برسد مسابقه برگزار می شود در غیر اینصورت مسابقه آن گرایش برگزار نخواهد شد و نمونه تحویل گرفته شده به تیم های ثبت نام کننده عودت داده نمی شود.
1-4 هرتیم شامل حداقل 2 نفر و حداکثر 8 نفر عضو به همراه 1 نفر استاد راهنما از همان موسسه آموزش عالی، دبیرستان، هنرستان و … می باشد. همه اعضای تیم باید از یک مقطع تحصیلی باشند.
1-5 هر شخص تنها مي تواند در يك تیم عضويت داشته باشد.
1-6 هر موسسه آموزش عالی، دبیرستان، هنرستان و… برنده حداکثر یک رتبه ( مقام ) خواهد بود.
1-7 استاد راهنما فقط مسئوليت هدايت اعضاي تيم و رعايت قوانين مسابقه از طرف تيم را بر عهده دارد.
1-8 هر استاد راهنما نمي تواند سرپرستي بیش از دو تیم از یک دبیرستان، هنرستان، موسسه آموزش عالی و … بر عهده بگيرد.
1-9 فرم های ثبت نام از طریق ایمیل یا فکس می بایست ارسال شود. شرکت کنندگان فرم ثبت نام را می بایست از وبسایت www.aciiranchpter.org دانلود و تکمیل نموده، به همراه مدارک خواسته شده شامل(معرفی نامه برروی سربرگ دانشگاه یا گواهی اشتغال به تحصیل) کپی کارت دانشجویی معتبر، کپی کارت ملی، فیش واریزی ثبت نام) به دبیرخانه همایش از طریق ایمیل به آدرس convention@aciiranchapter.org و یا از طریق فکس به شماره 88797454 ارسال نمایند.
1-10 آخرین مهلت ثبت نام برای شرکت در مسابقه توپ بولینگ بتنی، ساعت 17:00 روز جمعه مورخ 24 آذر ماه سال 1402 می باشد.
1-11 تاریخ برگزاری مسابقه توپ بتنی بولینگ:
مسابقه توپ بتنی بولینگ مورخ 5 و 6 دی ماه سال ۱۴۰2 مصادف با روز ایمنی در برابر زلزله و سالروز بازسازی شهر زلزله زده بم برگزار می شود.
1-12 تاریخ تحویل مدارک و نمونه مسابقه توپ بتنی بولینگ:
شرکت کنندگان می بایست یک نسخه گزارش چاپ شده (Hard copy) و CD گزارش را طبق فرمت آورده شده در بخش ۶آیین نامه به همراه نمونه های بتنی خود و اصل مدارک (شامل اصل فرم ثبت نام و معرفی نامه برروی سربرگ دانشگاه یا گواهی اشتغال به تحصیل) را به صورت حضوری در روز اول همایش روز سه شنبه مورخ 5 دی ساعت 8:00 صبح به محل دریافت نمونه های دانشجویی ارایه نمایند.
تحویل نمونه ها و مدارک لازم توسط یک نفر (سرپرست و یا نماینده تیم) انجام می شود. نماینده تیم پس از تحویل نمونه ها به کمیته تحویل نمونه مسابقات دانشجویی، رسید تحویل نمونه دریافت می کند که می بایست آن را تا پایان مسابقات و اعلام نتایج نزد خود نگاه دارد.
1-13 نمونه های تحویل داده شده توسط تیم های شرکت کننده به کمیته مسابقات، عودت داده نمی شود.
1-14 هزینه واریزی جهت ثبت نام به هیچ عنوان عودت داده نمی شود.
1-15 آخرین مهلت ارسال گزارش الکترونیکی (بصورت فایل PDF) ساعت ۱۷:۰۰ مورخ 28 آذر ماه سال ۱۴۰2 می باشد.
1-16 گزارش های الکترونیکی می بایست به آدرسconvention@aciiranchapter.org در تاریخ مشخص شده و طبق آیین نامه ارسال شوند.

 

17-1 استاد راهنما باید از اعضای هیات علمی و یا مدرسین دانشگاه تیم دانشجویی مربوطه باشد .

• حضور استاد راهنما در روز مسابقه و زمان برگزاری مسابقه تیم خود الزامی است و عدم حضور باعث حذف تیم دانشجویی می شود.
• همراه داشتن معرفی نامه از دانشگاه و اصل کارت دانشجویی در روز همایش الزامی است.

1-18 گزیده هایی از مسابقات ملی بتن مورخ 5 و 6 دی ماه سال ۱۴۰2 به صورت زنده (Live) از وب سایت مرکز تحقیقات بتن www.ConREC.ac.ir پخش می شود. جهت اطلاع از جزئیات پخش مسابقات بتن به وب سایت مراجعه نمایید.

1-19 نتایج بیست و ششمین دوره مسابقات دانشجویی ملی بتن، مورخ 6 دی ماه سال ۱۴۰2 در مراسم اختتامیه جشنواره و کنفرانس بتن و زلزله مرکز تحقیقات بتن (متب) اعلام می شود.
